Build a Song, Part 1

David Wilcox is one of the truly great singer/songwriter/guitarists of my generation. I hope to be able to play half as good as he does before I die – so I better start practicing!
Fortunately for me, his song Rusty Old American Dream is almost in my range. I’ve played an ersatz version of this song for years, but recently learned how to play it properly, using an open ‘C’ tuning. I’m playing this on the oldest guitar I own, and old Yamaha FG-180 that’s pretty beat up, but can still belt it out when necessary. If you listen to the lyrics you’ll see why that’s appropriate.
This recording is part one of a three part release. It contains the main guitar part and some vocals. Later I’ll add a rhythm section, and a third release with horns. You can choose whether you like this ‘raw’ version, or the later, more ‘produced’ version. No matter which one you pick, you will love this song.
